NATURE RESERVES TO BE OPEN FOR WALKING AND JOGGING

5 JUNE 2020 – Upon the decision made by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and after almost three (3) months of being cooped up at home due to the Covid 19 pandemic, SARAWAK FORESTRY Corporation (SFC) will open selected Nature Reserves (NR) to the public for joggers and walkers starting Monday June 8, 2020.

Among the selected NRs are Sama Jaya Nature Reserve (Kuching), Bukit Lima Nature Reserve (Sibu), Piasau Nature Reserve (Miri) and Bukit Sembiling Nature Reserve (Limbang).

CEO of SFC, who is also the Controller of National Parks & Nature Reserves, Zolkipli Mohamad Aton assured the public that these 4 Nature Reserves are opened for visitors to do some physical exercises like walking and jogging and to enjoy nature during this difficult time.  He however, stressed that the public needed to comply to SOP that SFC had implaced.  Upon entering the parks, the public must follow the guidelines and instructions at our Reserves. The opening hours for senior citizens are from 7am to 10am and adults from 2 pm to 6pm. Between 10am to 2pm the reserves are closed. Children below 12 years old are not allowed to enter.

“It must surely be exciting to be able to conduct physical excercises outdoor following the relaxation of the Movement Conditional Order by the government.  However, when running or jogging, always ensure you do not run too close to another person. Also, head home straight after that. SFC have designated trails for jogging and walking separately.  Meanwhile, other facilities, such as the cafe and park shop, will remain closed,” he added.

Members of the public can call the respective Nature Reserves office at Sama Jaya NR (082-365194, 011 – 25181901), Bukit Lima NR (082-228108, 019 – 4685402), Piasau NR (085 – 644487, 016 – 8898590), or Bukit Sembiling NR (085 – 215121, 013 – 8121930).
