SFC UPDATE ON SK. SUNGAI ARANG CROC STORY
KUCHING, 19 JUNE 2017– In a press statement issued today, SARAWAK FORESTRY Corporation (SFC) informs that prior to the survey conducted last Saturday in response to the Borneo Post story on SK Sungai Arang, SFC’s Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT) had in fact conducted a croc removal operation at the same location in March this year but the operation failed to snare any rogue crocodile.
“We will now carry out another survey to enable us to locate the ‘favourite’ spots of the crocodiles so that we can better plan our next course of action such as deciding on the most suitable culling method and identifying areas for Crocodile Removal Zones (CRZs). In the meantime, we would be erecting signage at the area to warn the locals of crocodile presence in their river system within this week,” the statement added.
The SFC statement went on to say that the said survey would run in parallel with a Communication Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) Programme as a prelude to a culling exercise for the Sungai Arang river system.
