13 Feb 1220 ILLEGAL SHORT LOGS DETAINED IN JOINT SFC – MARINE POLICE OPERATION
BINTULU, 13 FEBRUARY 2018 – Tip-off from the public against illegal logging has been a key factor in numerous successful enforcement operations carried out by SARAWAK FORESTRY Corporation (SFC) and Marine Police under its National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS). This was again manifested through the log seizures in Sebauh for the past 2 days. A total of 1220 illegal short logs of various sizes and species were subsequently detained.
“Upon receiving information yesterday, the enforcement team comprising officers from SFC’s Bintulu Regional Office, One-Stop Compliance Centre (OSCC) Tubau, and Marine Police was dispatched to a location at Batang Kemena, Sebauh yesterday evening. They foiled an attempt to smuggle 200 illegal short logs of various sizes and species that had been tied into a raft.
The team continued checking the surrounding areas this morning and subsequently discovered another 1020 illegal short logs, believed to be extracted from a forest nearby. Upon checking, none of the logs bear any official markings and were subsequently detained upon confirming that no license to extract timber has been issued at the area,” said the statement.
A report on the raid was lodged at the Bintulu police station. The case will be handed over to Forest Department for further investigation and disposal.
