Good partnerships have been formed between the SARAWAK FORESTRY Corporation (SFC) and other enforcement agencies such as 10th Battalion General Operation Force (GOF) and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Operasi Khazanah, a special operation in totally-protected areas against illegal logging, which lead to a successful raid against 15 illegal loggers, age from 17 to 63 years old at Sedilu National Park.
“The operation was carried out on 30th January 2020 and the 15 local perpetrators of the alleged illegal logging operation were caught red-handed with 88 pieces different sizes and species of logs, 3 shot guns, parang, chainsaws and both boats and the engines,” says the SFC statement.
Controller of national parks and nature reserves Haji Zolkipli Mohamad Aton said, “We will not tolerate any illegal activities, including illegal logging and wildlife trade and will ensure that the offenders will be brought to justice.”
A police report was lodged at Simunjan Police Station. All the suspects were remanded pending further investigation by the authorities concerned and their tools were confiscated.
