20 May DETENTION OF 565 PIECES OF ILLEGAL LOGS AT SG SETALUN, BELAWAI, SARIKEI
SIBU, 20 MAY 2018 – On 17.05.18, a team of enforcement officers from Sarawak Forestry Corporation Sibu Regional Office encountered and subsequently detained a total of 565 pieces of illegal logs at 2 different locations along the riverbank of Sg. Setalun, Belawai, Sarikei while undertaking patrolling activities at the area.
The logs are believed to be extracted illegally from nearby forest using excavators by unknown individuals and stacked thereat prior to being removed elsewhere. None of the logs bear the official markings and nobody was found at the vicinity during the raid.
A police report had been lodged at Belawai Police Station. All the logs will be handed over to Forest Department for their further investigation and action.
