Four directors from Phillipines Department of Environment and Natural Resources together with six staff of ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) visited Gunung Mulu National Park from 2 – 4 December 2019 as part of their programme of ‘Experiential Learning on Protected Area Management and Ecotourism’

Four directors from Phillipines Department of Environment and Natural Resources together with six staff of ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) visited Gunung Mulu National Park from 2 – 4 December 2019 as part of their programme of ‘Experiential Learning on Protected Area Management and Ecotourism’.

The entourage, led by ACB consultant, Dr Filiberto Pollisdo Jr. were welcomed by SFC General Manager, Mr Oswald Braken, Eco-tourism Manager, Dr Victor Luna Amin and Borsamulu Park Manager, Mr Hein Gerstner. The participants were given lectures on governance of and ecotourism industry from both SFC & Borsamulu.

The programme continued with field trips to Batu Bungan Penan Market, Deer Caves, Clearwater Caves and Caves of the Wind. A simple closing ceremony was conducted at the end of the programme with experience sharing from the participants and exchanges of tokens of appreciation. The Phillipines entourage were generally enthralled by the rock formation of Mulu and how local communities were included in working together with the private sector and government in co-managing GMNP which is proudly an ASEAN Heritage Park and a World Heritage Site.
