Media Release: SFC, PGA and SPRM Crippled Bird Smuggling Activity in Tebedu

KUCHING, 7 JANUARY 2020 –  SARAWAK FORESTRY Corporation (SFC), Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) and Pasukan Gerakan Am (PGA) Batalion 11 have crippled a bird smuggling activity, with the seizure of more than 1000 Burung Murai Batu and Murai Kampung and arrest of a 39 years old Indonesian suspect in Tebedu.

General manager of SFC Oswald Braken Tisen said on 6 January, based on information received, 4 SFC officers and personnels from PGA and SPRM raided “Jalan Tikus” in Tebedu, which led to the arrest. Among the seizures made include 1060 of Burung Murai Kampung and Burung Murai Batu will be sent to Matang Wildlife Centre.

The case is being investigated under Section 29(2) and 37(1) of the Wild Life Protection Ordinance, 1998.

Oswald Braken Tisen thanked members of public and all the parties involved for their flawless collaboration. He expressed gratitude to PGA and SPRM for the diligence with which they have handled the joint operation.

Members of the public can lodge a report with SFC if they find anyone hunting, capturing, killing, trading, keeping as pets, importing or exporting of protected wildlife.
