PUBLIC TIP-OFF LEADS TO MANGROVE POLES SEIZURES IN BATU KAWA

KUCHING, 13 JANUARY 2018 – Acting on a public tip-off, SARAWAK FORESTRY Corporation’s (SFC) enforcement team from Kuching Regional Office detained a lorry for transporting mangrove poles suspected of being illegally obtained.

This was disclosed in a SFC statement explaining that the enforcers had found a total of 300 pieces of mangrove (Bakau) poles in the lorry near Jalan Matang – Batu Kawa Bypass yesterday, believed to have illegally extracted from Telaga Ai. The driver failed to show any documents on the mangrove poles.

A report on the raid had been lodged at Batu Kawa Police Station and the case will be handed over to Forest Department for further investigation and disposal.
