SARAWAK FORESTRY JOINT OPERATIONS NETTED BIG HAUL ON ILLEGAL LOGGINGS
KAPIT, 13 AUGUST 2018 – Acting on public complaint and based on some information gathered, SARAWAK FORESTRY Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (SFCSB), Sibu and Bintulu Regional Offices, with the assistance from the State Security and Enforcement Unit and Marine Police Sibu conducted a joint operation to eradicate illegal logging activities at Balleh, Kapit areas. The 4 days operation (7-10/8/18), yielded substantial detection and subsequent detention of logs and machineries at various localities.
794 pieces of illegal logs were detained with 2 excavators, 4 tractors and 2 Lorries also taken into custody. The logs extracted are believed to have been illegally extracted from nearby timber-licence areas, and none of the logs bore any official markings. At the time of the raids, no individual was encountered at the vicinities of the areas.
All cases had been reported to the police station and handed over to Forest Department for further investigation.
