SEMENGGOH WILDLIFE CENTRE WELCOMES NEWBORN ORANGUTAN
KUCHING, 4 APRIL 2018 – Say “hello” to the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre’s newest resident.
SARAWAK FORESTRY Corporation (SFC) would like to share the joy of a new baby orangutan at Semenggoh Wildlife Centre.
“An orangutan named Sadamiah, aged 16, was spotted at feeding platform on March 27 at about 2:40pm with a baby clinging closely to her. Sadamiah was last seen at the feeding platform on March 17, therefore, it is believed the baby was born on March 22,” said a statement issued by SFC.
“Both mother and baby looked fine. The baby is spending time with its mother behind the scenes to bond and rest, but the gender could not be determined as it was clutched too closely by its protective mother,” added the statement.
Sadamiah also gave birth to Ruby, a 5-year old female orangutan. With this new birth, Semenggoh has 30 free-ranging orangutans that are a constant delight to visitors.
