07 May SFC COMMITTED TO ADDRESS HUMAN-WILDLIFE CONFLICTS
KUCHING, 7 MAY 2018 – Crocodile removal operation conducted at Sg. Sarawak along the stretch between the barrage and Rantau Panjang, Batu Kawa as part of the larger crocodile management plan by SARAWAK FORESTRY Corporation’s (SFC) Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT) resulted in the capture of one crocodile. Caught at the locality encompassing the so-called Crocodile Removal Zone, the crocodile is believed to be the one reported by the villagers of Kampung Rantau Panjang terrorizing their riverine.
“In the week-long croc culling operation scheduled from 3 to 7 May 2018, a male crocodile measuring 3.73m length was hooked/caught at noon last Saturday. The operation was considered a success whereby the team sprung into action by establishing an operation area that in essence covers the river system between Batu Kawa Bridge and Satok Bridge,” said a statement issued by SFC today.
Members of the public are reminded to notify the nearest Forest Department or SFC offices of crocodile sightings in their areas and not take matters into their own hands as these reptiles are dangerous.
