TIMBER THEFTS AT BTG IGAN FOILED BY FACEBOOK TIP-OFF

SIBU, 27 OCTOBER 2017 – The Facebook’s page of SARAWAK FORESTRY Corporation (SFC) has become a forum for members of the public to report forestry offences especially illegal logging. The latest incident of an illegal logging operation being foiled by a public tip-off via Facebook happened yesterday wherein a joint enforcement team comprising SFC officers from Sibu Regional Office and Sarawak River Board raided a location at Sungai Bungan, Btg Igan and detained 422 logs.

A SFC spokesperson explained that the joint enforcement team later discovered another 119 logs at the riverbank of Sungai Bedil, Btg Igan. All the logs are believed to have been illegally extracted from the nearby forest as none of the logs bear any official markings.

Both cases had been reported to Sibu Central Police Station. The cases had been handed over to Forest Department for further investigation and disposal.
